Shockwave therapy

Shock wave therapy is a gentle method for treating acute and chronic pain in the musculoskeletal system. Pressure waves are generated outside the body (extracorporeally). The procedure is therefore also known as extracorporeal shock wave therapy (ESWT). The aim of shock wave therapy is to stimulate the body's self-healing processes.
There are basically two different ways in which shock wave therapy can be carried out. Focused and radial ESWT. Focused shock waves are aimed directly at the affected part of the body and penetrate deep into the body. Calcium deposits or kidney stones are thus broken up. Radial shock waves have less energy and affect the entire area of pain. They stimulate the tissue, relieve muscular tension, stimulate cell metabolism and thus support pain relief and healing.
Shock wave therapy can not only break up calcifications, but also treat tendon attachment inflammation or regenerate poorly healing bone fractures. The treatment generally accelerates the healing process in tissues because it promotes the formation of the body's own messenger substances.

What is it good for?
• Calcified shoulder,
• Tennis elbow
• Kidney and gallstones
• Heel pain/heel spur

In principle, shock wave therapy is not a service provided by statutory health insurance companies, so it cannot be prescribed. In some exceptional cases, some health insurance companies cover the costs for kidney and gallstones or plantar fasciitis.
Please ask your statutory health insurance company beforehand.
